About our Firm

History
Gaskill, Pharis & Pharis, L.L.P. has been in business in Dalhart, Texas since 1963. The firm was originally established by Harlon E. Gaskill, who was joined by Earl D. Pharis in 1967 and Mel Pharis in 1973. Since that time, four additional principals have been added and remain to this date while both of the founding principals have since entered semi-retirement. Current principals of Gaskill, Pharis & Pharis, L.L.P. are: Mel Pharis, 1973, Van J. Josselet, 1980, Ed Hopkins, 1986, Chad Miller, 1996 and Lee Moore, 1998. Presently there are six full time and three part-time Certified Public Accountants in the firm and four administrative personnel. The firm operated as a partnership until 1984, at which time the decision was made to operate as a Professional Corporation. The firm operated in this capacity until January, 2000 at which time the firm became a Limited Liability Partnership.


Professional Associations
Gaskill, Pharis & Pharis, L.L.P. is a full service Certified Public Accounting Firm. The Firm and/or each accountant of the firm is a member of the following professional associations:

  • American Institute of Certified Public Accountants
  • Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants
  • Panhandle Chapter of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants
  • Southern and Western Accounting Group
Southern and Western Accounting Group (SWAG) was founded in 1969 by a group of Texas Certified Public Accountants in public practice who shared a vision. They sought a way to serve clients better, increase their ability to compete and enhance the quality of their firms. SWAG has evolved over the years as one of the most successful practice management froups in existence.

SWAG remains committed to strengthening the profesionalism of aggressive, local public accounting firms throughout the southwest United States. The membership area includes Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico and Oklahoma.

To qualify for membership in SWAG, an accounting firm must demonstrate a desire to attain and maintain high professional standards and render quality service to clients. Member firms meet and exceed AICPA and State Board continuing professional education requirements for all professional staff.


Peer Review
Since June 12, 1984, Gaskill, Pharis & Pharis, L.L.P. has satisfactorily completed multiple peer reviews. Peer reviwes are required by the Private Companies Practice Section of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. A copy of the letter accompanying the most recent peer review may be obtained by a request to Gaskill, Pharis & Pharis, L.L.P. Certain regulatory entities in some industries will not accept audit reports in the future unless a firm has successfully completed a peer review.

Southern and Western Accounting Group also requires a peer review every three years. This assures a continued commitment to quality service and professional standards. Gaskill, Pharis & Pharis, L.L.P. is one of the firms providing qualified peer reviewers.


Professional Development
The Certified Public Accountants associated with Gaskill, Pharis & Pharis, L.L.P. complete 40-60 hours of professional development training every year. The training is usually sponsored by one of the professional associations of which Gaskill, Pharis & Pharis, L.L.P. is a member. Training is available in the fields of Tax, Auditing, Financial Planning, Estate Planning, etc. Gaskill, Pharis & Pharis, L.L.P. strives to stay abreast of current laws and seek out the best courses available for staff training in the field of accounting. Gaskill, Pharis & Pharis, L.L.P. is committed to providing the best informed and best trained accountants to serve clients' needs.
